Pylons Shut-Down Game FaltersScoring race heats up Pylons offence Pylons 6 - Smith Services 7 Saturday, February 20, 2010
The Pylons fell 7-6 to Smith Servies on Saturday night, but the glorious & ornery green & orange come away with some positives.
"We held a 6-3 lead after two periods," said Pylons backstopper, Wally Wick. "And while we maintained some offensive pressure, a couple of bad bounces, turnovers, and screened shots led to the two points eluding our grasp."
Some fans pointed to the late showing of Jeff "The Schurminator" Schurman as the turning point.
"We love Jeff and his contributions as a veteran of 'The Dub'," noted one fan adorned with a tatooed pylon on his cheek. "But his recent conditioning stint in Mexico has maybe made him a little too comfortable out there. He'll be back to form next game, though!"
The increasingly reclusive JMtheGM made a rare appearance at Pylons HQ and responded to questions from the media scrum about the club's recent offensive outburst.
"The coaching staff have been working with young forwards Jeff "Jammin'" Jelinski and Landon "The Laser" Carlson," noted Meakin. "After splitting them up for a while and breaking down what wasn't working for them, they've turned things around since being reunited with Matt "Yappin'" Yee."
And, of course," added the GM, "improved secondary scoring is lighting a fire under our veteran Captain Tyler "Wallopin" Watson and his energy line wingers, Dan "Boom Boom" Bender and Shane "Gabbin" Gaboury. The result is that an interesting scoring race is shaping up."
With only 5 games left in the 2009-2010 regular season, the Pylons obviously need to continue mining offensive opportunities ... and to take care of business in their own end.
